02/02/2014 - Positive pregnancy test!
02/27/2014 ~ 1st ultrasound confirmed heartbeat.
03/13/2014 ~ 10 weeks ~ 2nd ultrasound still confirmed heartbeat.
03/27/2014 ~ 12 weeks ~ 1st trimester screening at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
05/13/2014 ~ 18 weeks/5 days ~ Fetal anomaly scan at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Found out we were having another boy, but also received the devastating prognosis that he had a condition called a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).
05/15/2014 ~ 19 weeks ~ Arrived at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment. A full fetal assessment was performed including a high resolution ultrasound, fetal echocardiogram, fetal MRI, and meeting with the genetic counselor. After the diagnostic exams were complete, we met with a high-risk maternal-fetal medicine specialist and pediatric surgeon who confirmed Caleb's diagnosis.
05/27/2014 ~ 20 weeks/5 days ~ Arrived at the John's Hopkins Hospital for a 2nd consultation. They performed a high resolution ultrasound and we discussed Caleb's diagnosis with a perinatologist, pediatric surgeon, and NICU doctor.
06/16/2014 ~ 23 weeks/4 days ~ Follow-up appointment at the John's Hopkins Hospital. Another fetal echocardiogram and high resolution ultrasound were performed and I had my first appointment with my new perinatologist.
07/14/2014 ~ 27 weeks/4 days ~ Our follow-up ultrasound showed that polyhydramnios is now present and represents the excessive accumulation of amniotic fluid, which is the fluid that surrounds the baby in the uterus during pregnancy. Polyhydramnios occurs in about one percent of pregnancies and can be associated with CDH pregnancies. My perinatologist also concluded that I am measuring larger than expected for this stage of pregnancy, based on my due date. He was able to determine this by measuring my fundal height, which is the distance from my pubic bone to the top of my uterus.
